It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Nigel Durham, drummer for Morpheus Rising and former member of legendary British heavy metal band Saxon and Oliver/Dawson Saxon. He was just 61 years old, far too young to leave us.

In a statement from the President and CEO of Melodic Revolution Records:

“We are deeply saddened to learn of Nigel’s passing. Nigel was an exceptionally talented drummer whose passion, musicianship, and contributions to rock and metal music will not be forgotten.

We had the privilege of working with Nigel through Morpheus Rising, whose album Eximius Humanus was released on Melodic Revolution Records in 2014. His powerful drumming and musical talent helped shape an album that remains a meaningful part of our label’s history.

Beyond his work with Morpheus Rising, Nigel was highly respected for his contributions to Saxon and Oliver/Dawson Saxon, leaving his mark on the British rock and heavy metal scene.

While we mourn the loss of a gifted musician, we also celebrate the music, memories, and legacy he leaves behind. Music has a remarkable way of keeping those we have lost close to us, and Nigel’s performances will continue to resonate with listeners for generations to come.

Our hearts, love, and deepest condolences go out to Nigel’s wife, Lauretta, his daughter, Gemma, his grandchildren, and all his family, friends, fellow musicians, and fans during this incredibly difficult time.

Sixty-one years is simply far too short a journey, but the music you leave behind will live on.

Thank you for the music, Nigel. Thank you for the memories and for sharing your remarkable talent with the world.

Rest in peace, my friend. Godspeed, and may the music never stop.“
