With The Deep Dive, Skylake deliver eight original and densely crafted progressive rock/metal tracks that move between heavy walls of sound and lush acoustic passages.
The album explores themes ranging from horror stories and insomnia to self-acceptance, personal hardships and saying farewell, resulting in a record that is both musically expansive and intensely personal.
“We poured our heart, soul, blood, sweat, tears, sanity and more into this album, and we are incredibly proud of it. We dived deep to refine our sound, to figure out what works and doesn’t, and ended up embracing what makes us sound like us. The result is The Deep Dive: a dynamic album featuring heavy walls of sound, lush acoustic passages, energetic and intricate rhythms, and vocals ranging from confident and powerful to delicate and vulnerable.” — Bart Laan, guitars
Formed in 2015 and based in Utrecht, Skylake draw inspiration from the likes of Karnivool, Tesseract, Leprous, Anathema and Porcupine Tree, while developing a sound distinctly their own.
The band’s current core line-up features Suzan van den Engel (vocals, harp), Bart Laan (guitars, cello, flute, vocals), Charlie Feld (bass) and Arjan Laan (drums). For live performances, the band is joined by Max Basener on second guitar.
