Finnish grunge/hard rock band Distressed return with their new full-length album Made Of Stone, a 12-track release that includes one bonus track, following their 2023 album Nothing For No One.
First, a few words about the music itself.
Our new album significantly widens Distressed’s musical palette. While the heavy rock riffs and obvious nods to the history of metal are still very much present, this time the band ventures further into new and unexpected territory.
The epic track “Sungod” features Miguel Fernandez, incorporating a powerful Pemon Indian jaguar mantra that adds a ritualistic and atmospheric dimension to the song. “You Haven’t Found It Yet” leans into moody, synth-infused textures, evoking subtle ’80s Depeche Mode vibes, while “Agents of the Groove” transports the listener to mid-2000s Los Angeles, channeling the swagger and energy of Eagles of Death Metal.
All in all, Made Of Stone is a far more diverse and adventurous release than our debut, expanding our sound while staying true to the raw, uncompromising spirit of Distressed.
The origins of Distressed are rooted in persistence and creative restlessness:
“At first, there was one old riff that had to be made away. Soon there was a new riff and that too had to be done away. Soon there were five, ten, fifteen… And then I had to start a band to play songs. And so Distressed was born.”
About the Band
Distressed is, quite simply, relentless. “There has been coronavirus, drummer changes, and other annoyances, but the band has just believed in themselves and pushed forward,” says guitarist Petri Lindström. “The musical style has never been limited to too tight a framework, moving somewhere in grunge, heavy, hard rock, and alternative terrain. Each player brings their own mark to the songs, and over the years we have developed our own sound.” That unwavering commitment shines through on Made Of Stone, an album that balances grit, melody, and raw emotional drive while staying true to the band’s no-compromise ethos.
