Help Us Create The New Gardening Club Album

The Insubstantial Pageant is the new Gardening Club album. We need your help to finish recording.

What We Need & What You Get

We need to raise $6000 to finish the album. As the founder of The Gardening Club and principal song writer and music director, I am extremely fortunate to work with such a brilliant group of Canadian musicians. The joy of creating with these wonderful players, is that I know they always play and sing at the top of their game to whatever song I bring to them. They are also my friends, so I feel very good about employing them to create music that is a challenge and that they all enjoy exploring. 

From the original Gardening Club LP released in 1983 up to the present day, I have created art to go with the music.  The perks that I have lined for you are a lot of fun! First off, all donors will get a free piece of original art, I call them Garden Doodles, approx 8.25 by 5.5. Black and white unique visual moments. There are Gardening Club posters of all our album covers, you choose which one you would like. They are 12 by 12, that glorious vinyl format.  There are Gardening Club Art Cards, 5.5 by 8.5 from all the Gardening Club releases.  A top perk will be the rerelease version of the original Gardening Club LP, plus a second LP, Songs From the Greenhouse and the Gardening Club Graphic Novel. Full to the brim with art! A unique package in the annals of Canadian music. All these productions will be signed by the artist, that would be me. For those who love the ‘beautiful object’ rather than a digital download, there will CD’s with an illustrated lyric book.  

If we don’t reach our entire goal, all the funds collected will be used to support as much of this as we can bring to fruition. That might mean a digital release rather than a physical for instance, or not as many guest artists as we would love to invite to play on the album.  As usual with any creative endeavour there is the ‘ideal’ version, and then there is the version that the reality of the situation sculpts for you. In other words, you make compromises so that the project will live, but in a different form. 

Your contributions will help create one of our best albums, I am certain of it. Steve Bennett, my co-songwriter and I have worked hard to make this musical story compelling and intriguing all the way through. Steve is a BAFTA winning screenwriter from the U K, and as I am from England myself, we have I think a special bond that has culminated in some of the best G C albums, like Mr October And The Moon Of Madness. As with all the players in The Gardening Club, I am thrilled to be working with Steve on The Insubstantial Pageant. 

Short Summary

Hi, This is Martin Springett from The Gardening Club.  The Gardening Club has released seven full length albums, and we are now working on the eighth, The Insubstantial Pageant. 

We are now at a crossroads financially though and I need your help to finish this new album which I know will be one of our best. 

All the songs are written and demoed. I need to pay Kevin Laliberte for his production and arranging skills that take my original demos, and send them, very often, into the stratosphere. 

Ideally, I’d like to do a short run of CD’s for those that love the physical object as I do. This also inspires me to create a special illustrated lyric booklet, which is now an essential creative element of any Gardening Club release. 

Funds raised through this campaign would allow us all, Danie Friesen – Soprano Voice, Drew Birston – Bass, Chendy Leon – Drums and Percussion, Kevin Laliberte – Production, Wayne Kozak – Saxophone, Norm Macpherson – Original Orchestral Compositions , Steve Bennett – Lyricist,  to do our best work.
