There’s something cathartic about escaping down an open highway with the windows down, music blaring, and your worries left in the rearview. Southeastern Michigan ska-punk powerhouse The Boy Detective capture that exact moment of carefree euphoria on their new single, “American Farts,” out October 10 on Punkerton Records.
Produced by Roger Lima (Less Than Jake) and mixed/mastered by Eric Taft (The Dangerous Summer, Cliffdiver, We Are The Union), “American Farts” is a blast of melody, humor, and heart — a classic ska-punk singalong tailor-made for road trips, basement shows, and bad days turned good. The song’s high-octane horns, shout-along chorus, and warm sense of humor make it an instant anthem for anyone who’s ever needed a musical pick-me-up.
“Sometimes you just want to take your partner out for a ride, crank up the stereo, roll down the windows and sing out your lungs. The little things, that’s all…”
— Benny Capaul (vocals)
Following the success of 2024’s Art Theft, The Boy Detective return with their sophomore full-length Disco Lunch — a riotous, high-energy record that doubles down on their signature mix of ska-core grooves, punk urgency, and self-aware humor. From blistering horn lines to melodic hooks and lyrical absurdity, the band delivers an album that’s as infectious as it is heartfelt.
“When we say we threw everything and the kitchen sink in, we meant it. Disco Lunch is ten songs that span almost two decades. We’ve opened the vault, collected, and distributed these gems for you. So go ahead and take out a withdrawal on Disco Lunch—you’ll be thankful for the wait. Let’s boogie!”
— Benny Capaul (vocals)

Band Bio
The Boy Detective began as a humble recording project between two Michigan friends, Nic Good (guitar/vocals) and Benny Capaul (vocals), writing ska-punk songs about domestic life and dad humor as an excuse to escape the house for a few hours a week. What started as a lighthearted side project grew into a full-fledged band with the addition of Geridan St. Peter (trombone), Seth Urban (saxophone), Ricky Held (bass), Zach Marshall (drums), and Emily Steils (trumpet).
After releasing Banned From the Bathtub in 2021 and Art Theft in 2024, the band signed to Punkerton Records — home to like-minded misfits and modern ska revivalists — and began crafting Disco Lunch, their most ambitious release yet. With humor, heart, and a horn section that refuses to quit, The Boy Detective continue to prove that ska-punk is alive, well, and still joyously weird in the Midwest.
