Formed at the dawn of the new millenium, Chilean band Mar de Grises were active for over a decade, producing a selection of hugely critically acclaimed albums that really touched the hearts of those who embraced them. Mar de Grises were at the forefront of doom/death music in Chile, pushing the boundaries of what heavy, melancholic music could be, incorporating progressive and melodic elements in a way that opened up new pathways for those that followed in their footsteps.

Originally signed to the cult Finnish label, Firebox Records (Saturnus, Spiritus Mortis, Swallow The Sun etc), the band went on to sign with the renowned Season Of Mist and toured Europe extensively. Mar de Grises carved their name into the annals of rock history as a doom/death metal band whose music stood alone, rich in unique character and truly individual creativity. The band broke apart in 2013 leaving behind an untarnished body of work and now, twelve years later they are to reunite for a very special series of shows across their homeland, in the following cities:
March 28th Concepcion – La Bodeguita de Nicanor
March 29th Puerto Montt – Barra Bass
April 4th La Serena – Teatro Centenario
April 5th Santiago – Club Chocolate
To commemorate this event Ardua Music will be reissuing three CDs of Mar de Grises’ finest music under the campaign banner A Memorable Journey; the early demos, collected as First River Regards, the stunning debut album The Tatterdemalion Express and sublime second album Draining The Waterheart. The Tatterdemalion Express and Draining The Waterheart were both remastered in 2020 for vinyl and digital releases by Jamie Gomez Arellano (Paradise Lost, Hexvessel, Ulver etc) and the digital remasters have been used for the first time in a physical format for these CD reissues.The CDs will be released on March 28th to perfectly align with the beginning of the live performances and will be available only from Ardua Music and the Mar de Grises live shows.

The band have issued the following statement about the decision to reunite and return to the stage…
“More than a decade has passed since our last show. Back then, our paths diverged and we said our goodbyes. But the bonds and the music we created have always remained in our thoughts and hearts.
Today, we are excited to announce that we will be reuniting to play a couple of exclusive shows. And our lineup will be the one from our most active period: Rodrigo Gálvez – bass, Rodrigo Morris – guitars, Juan Escobar – vocals and keyboards, Sergio Álvarez – guitars. Drums will be performed by Pablo Martínez, known for his work with Entrefuego and All Tomorrows, who has also worked as a drum teacher at the Pro Jazz Institute.
We are certain that these shows will be a great opportunity to reconnect as friends, as a band, with our working team and with people we greatly admire both from the Chilean and international scenes. And of course, they will also be a wonderful chance to get to spend time with those who enjoy our music and with our most loyal fans, some of whom have followed us for 20 years and who, along with others, have passionately kept the band’s legacy alive. And, why not, this might also be an opportunity to introduce ourselves to those who haven’t heard of us, have never seen us live or to anyone who wishes to discover honest and intense music, beyond the labels of heavy metal or rock. But the heart of the matter lies in inviting you on a musical journey through our entire history consisting of extended shows, with our hearts operating at full capacity in a deep and intense environment. As for additional features, we are already developing the appropriate atmosphere, including screens and multiple tools that will resonate with the intensity of our music.
