Australia’s finest heavy-metal-folk-pop-Zappa-esque-funk fusion-rock band Troldhaugen are set to relaunch their sophomore album, Obzkure Anekdotez For Maniakal Massez with an international release for its 7th anniversary on CD and digital formats. An album that has already received countless critical acclaim from press all around the internet, it’s time for Troldhaugen to officially release this opus to the world for a second listen.

The album will be released and revisited as part of the Bird’s Robe Records 10th anniversary series celebrations.

Troldhaugen have had quite the transformation since their beginning as a duo in 2008. Their debut EP focused on blending traditional Scandinavian folk music with metal, resulting in equal parts moshing and jigging. They found unexpected internet success with a raucous cover of ABBA’s Gimme Gimme Gimme (A Troll After Midnight). Since then their sound has morphed into a combination of more styles than you can count; metal, folk, cabaret, latin, jazz and more. Expect rhythmically technical riffing, bombastic tuba lines, jangly mandolin, character voices, wild swing moments, madcap vibraphone rattling and down-tuned slap bass.

Troldhaugen – Viva Loa Vegas

In early 2014 they embarked on a successful co-headlining tour with Melbourne’s Toehider and shared stages with Gloryhammer (UK), Korpiklaani (FIN) & Finntroll (FIN). This tour led to them joining Australian based record label and management Bird’s Robe, with Director Mike Solo saying: “I’m stoked to announce that Troldhaugen are joining Bird’s Robe Records!

This band of crazy dudes have been long-time supporters of Bird’s Robe and it was only recently I had the chance to tour with them whilst on the road with Toehider. Their brand of quirky, experimental and theatrical folk-metal is a perfect fit for our little family & the fact that they are stand-up guys makes it all the more sweet. Plus, we all share an affinity for Slimey Things, which makes them instantly likeable.

Having heard a taste of the new stuff, I’m really looking forward to sharing their tunes with people around the world.”

Since the release of Obzkure Anekdotez For Maniakal Massez, the band saw their star rise considerably, receiving support from triple j radio, with Nick Findlay calling them: a magical shape-shifting monster.

They also toured Europe multiple times, including supporting pirate-metal legends Alestorm and performing at the 2015 Summer Breeze Festival in front of thousands of fans. Since then, they have released their most recent album idio+syncrasies and a new single E.E.T., as well as touring alongside Twelve Foot Ninja, Vampillia & Korpiklaani again.
